How to prepare your child for a big change
Talk about it early and simply, and give your child a way to picture the day before it comes. For a new baby, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests bringing it up early with toddlers and finishing other big changes, like potty training, first if you can.
One way to picture the day is a social story: a short story that walks a child through something new before it happens. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Center for Autism Research suggests one that shows the family as it is now, what will change and what will stay the same.
That's why Tella is built so the story stars your child, with your real family and the places they know. You watch it together, on the TV if you like, your child makes choices along the way, and once the change has happened, the story can carry on from there.
Pick a big change above to see how it works, or about any transition your little one is facing. Your first story is free. No card needed.

Questions parents ask
- What big changes can Tella make a story about?
- Any change coming up in your child's life. On the create page, "Something happening soon" lists the common ones, like a new sibling arriving, the first day of school and moving to a new home, and you can type your own, like potty training or a second home.
- Can the story keep going after the change happens?
- Yes. "Continue a story" picks up where the last one ended, so you can make one before the baby comes and another once the baby is home.
- Is a Tella story a social story?
- It can be. A social story is a short story that walks a child through something new before it happens. A Tella story does that with your child as the hero, in pictures and narration.
