Children's Privacy Policy

Effective June 22, 2026 · Tella LLC · COPPA Notice

Tella creates personalized stories for children. Because our service involves the processing of personal information about children under the age of 13, we are required to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This policy describes exactly what information we collect about children, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights parents and guardians have over that information.

This Children's Privacy Policy supplements our Privacy Policy. If there is any conflict between the two, this policy governs with respect to children's data.

1. How Tella works — children are not users

Children do not create accounts on Tella, submit information directly, or interact with the Service independently. All accounts are created and managed by adults (parents, guardians, or caregivers) who are at least 18 years old.

A parent or guardian creates a child profile during onboarding by providing information abouttheir child. The child's information flows through the Service only when the parent or guardian chooses to generate a story. At all times, the adult is in control of what is shared and when.

2. Verifiable parental consent

By creating a Tella account and building a child profile, the adult account holder affirms that they are the child's parent or legal guardian (or have the parent's or guardian's explicit permission to act on their behalf), and that they consent to the collection and use of the child's information as described in this policy.

We do not knowingly collect information about children under 13 without a consenting parent or guardian present as the account holder. If we learn that information about a child has been submitted without appropriate parental consent, we will delete it promptly.

3. What information we collect about children

The following information is collected solely to create personalized stories. None of it is used for advertising or sold to third parties.

  • Identity: First name, age range, and gender.
  • Physical appearance: Skin tone, hair color and style, eye color, and general ethnicity. This is used to generate an illustrated character that visually resembles your child.
  • Emotional and personality profile:Three short answers about your child's personality (e.g., how they handle emotions, what excites them, how they respond to challenges). These shape the themes and lessons in stories.
  • Interests: A list of topics, hobbies, or things your child enjoys. Used to choose story settings and characters.
  • Favorite color and animal: Used as design and story elements.
  • Optional notes:Any additional detail you choose to share, such as a nickname, a current challenge your child is facing, or a special context for stories (e.g., “he just started school”). This field is entirely optional and you control what, if anything, you include.
  • Generated content: The stories, character images, and narration audio created from the above inputs are stored in your account so you can revisit them.

We do not collect the child's last name, address, phone number, school, precise location, or any government-issued identifier. We do not collect biometric data.

4. How we use children's information

We use the child profile data exclusively to:

  • Generate personalized story text, character illustrations, narration audio, and video scenes on demand when the parent or guardian requests a story.
  • Display the child's profile to the account holder so they can review and edit it at any time.
  • Store generated stories so the family can read or listen to them again.

We do not use children's information to serve advertisements, build behavioral profiles, or for any purpose unrelated to creating and delivering stories.

5. AI processing of children's information

When a story is generated, a subset of the child profile (name, physical description, interests, emotional profile, and any optional note) is transmitted to third-party AI providers to produce story text, images, narration, and video. We work only with providers who have agreed not to use this data to train their own models or for any purpose beyond fulfilling our generation request.

AI-generated stories are creative content and may occasionally produce unexpected results. We encourage parents and guardians to read stories before or alongside their children.

6. Who we share children's information with

We do not sell children's personal information. We share it only with:

  • AI content providers — to generate story text, images, audio, and video on your behalf. These providers act as processors under our instructions and are contractually prohibited from using the data for their own purposes.
  • Cloud infrastructure providers — to store account data, generated stories, and assets. Storage is encrypted at rest.
  • Legal authorities — if required by a valid court order or law enforcement request. We will notify the account holder if we are legally permitted to do so.

Children's profile data is not shared with email or marketing providers, payment processors, or analytics services.

7. Data retention

We retain children's information for as long as the account is active. When an account is deleted, all associated child profile data and generated stories are deleted or anonymized within 30 days. Backup copies are purged within 90 days.

If you wish to delete only the child's profile without closing the account entirely, contact us at hello@tella.kids and we will process the deletion within 5 business days.

8. Parental rights

As the parent or guardian of a child whose information is stored in Tella, you have the following rights at any time:

  • Review. You may view all information we have stored about your child in Settings → Child Profile, or request a complete data export in Settings → Account.
  • Correct. You may update your child's profile information directly in the app at any time.
  • Delete. You may delete your child's profile and all associated data by deleting your account in Settings → Account, or by contacting us at hello@tella.kids.
  • Withdraw consent. You may withdraw your consent to the collection and use of your child's information at any time by deleting your account. Withdrawing consent means we can no longer provide the Service for your child.
  • Refuse further collection. You may ask us to stop collecting new information about your child while keeping existing stories by contacting us. In practice, this means we will not generate new stories using the child profile.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@tella.kids. We will respond within 5 business days. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing requests related to a child's data.

9. Security safeguards

We apply security measures proportionate to the sensitivity of children's information, including:

  • Encryption of all data in transit (TLS) and at rest.
  • Role-based access controls — only authorized Tella personnel with a specific operational need can access account data.
  • Hashed storage of sensitive values (e.g., the account owner's admin code is never stored in plaintext).
  • Routine security monitoring and log auditing.

10. No advertising to children

We do not serve behavioral advertisements to our users, and we do not use children's information for any advertising purpose. We do not allow third-party advertisers to collect information about children through the Service.

11. Changes to this policy

We will notify you by email at least 14 days before any material changes to this policy take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes your renewed consent to the updated terms.

12. Contact us
