Secrets of the Cardboard Castle
A giant fortress of brown boxes towered all the way to the living room ceiling. Rosy pointed her wooden stylus toward the drawbridge, her eyes bright with adventure. 'The Cardboard Castle is open!' she declared, marching forward with bold, independent steps.
Right behind her came Unicorn, stepping daintily, and her sister Wren, who clutched a map drawn in bright pink crayon. Squirrel scampered onto Rosy's shoulder, chattering excitedly about the hidden treasures waiting inside the dark, winding hallways.
Inside, the air smelled like paper and adventure. The walls were lined with mysterious black panels. Rosy reached out and gave the first panel a quick scratch. A bright streak of neon pink and sunny yellow flashed through the darkness.
'Look, Wren! It is a piece of the Rainbow Scratch-off Art!' Rosy cheered, her voice echoing in the cardboard corridor. Wren gasped with delight, pointing her crayon map deeper into the maze. They had to find them all.
They turned a sharp corner and stopped. A massive, fluffy wall of golden fur blocked their path. The Silly, Giant Puppy was napping right in the middle of the hallway, his tail giving a lazy, heavy thump against the cardboard.
Rosy crept forward on her tiptoes to find a way past. Suddenly, the puppy's eyes popped open. With a happy wiggle, he lunged forward and planted a giant, wet, slobbery lick right on the tip of Rosy's nose.
Rosy made a silly, wrinkled-up face, shaking her head. Wren burst into loud, ringing giggles, tumbling backward against Unicorn's fluffy legs. Rosy loved making her sister laugh, so she did a goofy dance to keep the giggles going.
Squirrel bravely tickled the puppy's nose with his bushy tail. The puppy sneezed, wiggled his giant bottom, and squeezed through a side door. 'The path is clear!' Rosy shouted, waving her stylus high as they entered the Great Hall.
The Great Hall was magnificent, with cardboard pillars stretching upward. On the far wall, a giant sheet of black paper waited. Rosy, Wren, and Squirrel worked together, scratching away the black wax to reveal swirling rainbow patterns underneath.
Just as they finished the rainbow pattern, a loud 'WOOF!' shook the cardboard walls. The Silly, Giant Puppy bounded back into the hall, sliding on his belly and blocking the exit to the final, deepest chamber of the castle.
Rosy giggled and crawled right between the puppy's fluffy front paws. She tickled his soft tummy, and the puppy rolled over with a happy sigh, letting the whole team scramble past him into the quiet, dark Secret Chamber.
In the center of the Secret Chamber stood a single, solid black wall. It looked dark and mysterious. Rosy felt a thrill of excitement. She knew this was the final hiding place of the greatest treasure in the castle.
Rosy stood on her tiptoes and began to scratch the very center of the black wall. As the black wax fell away in curly dark ribbons, a brilliant, warm yellow light began to peek through the cracks, illuminating their faces.
With one final, sweeping scratch, Rosy revealed the Glowing Star. It shone with a magical, soft light that filled the entire cardboard room with warmth. Unicorn nudged Rosy's shoulder, and Wren clapped her hands in pure amazement.
The Silly, Giant Puppy squeezed into the room, resting his heavy chin on Rosy's shoulder to admire the beautiful light. They all sat together in the cozy cardboard warmth, safe and happy after their grand, exciting treasure hunt.
Rosy looked down at her hand. A tiny speck of bright pink glitter from the scratch-off art clung to her thumb, shining quietly in the star's warm glow.
