Crayon Parade on Windy Way
Today was the biggest day ever. Rosy stood in the cozy kitchen, wearing her favorite purple shoes. Today, she was a big explorer starting preschool. But first, she needed her gear. "My colors!" she cheered, grabbing her crayons.
Rosy carefully packed her shiny purple backpack. In went the crayons. In went her special rainbow drawings. She zipped it up with a loud, satisfying zip. "All safe!" she declared, giving the octopus tentacles on her bag a happy high-five.
But an explorer cannot travel alone. Mama smiled and held up the glass travel bowl. Inside, Fish the orange goldfish swam in a happy circle. "Fish is ready for the big adventure too!" Mama said, kissing Rosy's cheek.
Rosy took the glass travel bowl very seriously. She held it with both hands like a precious treasure. "Hold on tight, Fish!" she whispered. Fish blew three tiny bubbles. That meant, "I am ready, Captain Rosy!"
They stepped outside onto the windy sidewalk. The morning air smelled like sweet grass and adventure. Rosy marched independently, her purple backpack bouncing. Mama walked beside her, carrying the extra snacks. "We are on our way!" Rosy sang.
Suddenly, a playful gust of wind swooped down from the sky. Whoosh! It tickled Rosy's nose. It tugged at her hair. Then, with a cheeky spin, the wind unzipped her purple backpack and snatched the rainbow drawings right out!
Rosy's eyes went wide. Her jaw dropped. "Oh no! My art!" she gasped. The papers swirled in the air like colorful autumn leaves. Fish swam rapidly in his bowl, watching the bright papers dance high above their heads.
The wind was playing a silly game. It blew a drawing of a yellow sun right onto Mama's head! Mama laughed, looking like she was wearing a bright, sunny crown. Rosy giggled, her big worry melting away into bubbles of laughter.
"Let's catch them!" Rosy cheered. She safely handed Fish's bowl to Mama. Then, Rosy zoomed across the grass. She leaped like a frog. She spun like a top. She was the swiftest art-catcher in the whole wide world!
With a final, heroic jump, Rosy snatched the last drawing of a purple star. She held her bundle tight and bowed. Mama clapped loudly, and Fish did a fancy flip in his water. The wind whispered a soft, defeated sigh.
They finally arrived at the sunny preschool classroom. It was beautiful. There were tiny chairs, soft rugs, and friendly faces. Rosy felt a little flutter in her tummy, so she squeezed Mama's hand. Mama squeezed right back, warm and steady.
Rosy found her very own cubby. It had her name on it, but it looked a bit empty. "I know!" Rosy whispered. She proudly took out her rescued rainbow drawings and taped them inside. Now, her cubby glowed like a warm rainbow.
Fish's bowl sat safely on the shelf right above her cubby, watching over her drawings. Rosy waved to him, then turned to Mama with a bright, confident smile. She was ready to play, draw, and make new friends.
As Mama waved goodbye, Rosy sat at the play table, ready to paint. She had survived the great wind, saved her art, and conquered her first big day. She wondered quietly to herself, do they make rainbow cookies for snack time?
