Baking for the Moon
A great adventure requires a very big plan. Rosy stood in the center of the kitchen, wearing her favorite purple apron, and declared that the family must bake a cake large enough to fly all the way to the moon.
Dad saluted with a shiny metal whisk. Mama clapped her hands, while baby Wren giggled from her high chair, waving a plastic measuring spoon like a magic wand. The mission was officially approved by everyone.
First, they needed the map. Rosy sat on the floor with a giant sheet of paper, drawing a blueprint of the cake with her purple crayon. It had three tiers, five rocket boosters, and lots of sprinkles.
To mix such a giant cake, Rosy needed the Giant Wooden Spoon. She dragged the heavy spoon across the floor, her face squeezed tight with determination. It was twice as tall as she was, but she did not give up.
Dad lifted Rosy up so she could reach the rim of the colossal silver mixing bowl. Together, they poured in a whole mountain of white flour. A soft, fluffy cloud puffed up, making them both sneeze instantly.
Now it was Mama's turn to help. She carefully poured in a stream of golden honey. Rosy watched the sweet, sticky river slide down the flour mountain, her eyes wide with absolute wonder at the beautiful sight.
Wren wanted to help too. Mama held the baby close, letting Wren drop three purple blueberries into the batter. Plip, plop, plup! The berries landed perfectly, and Wren cheered, splashing a tiny bit of flour on her nose.
It was time for the secret ingredient. Rosy whispered to Dad, then sprinkled a handful of imaginary stardust into the bowl. She stirred the mixture with the Giant Wooden Spoon, singing a silly space-travel song.
Together, the family poured the thick, purple batter into a special rocket-shaped pan. Dad carried the heavy pan over to the Purple Rocket Oven, walking slowly and making loud spaceship engine noises with his mouth.
Rosy stood back safely and pressed the big, round start button. The oven hummed to life, glowing with a warm, magical purple light. They all sat on the floor, waiting for the countdown to finish.
A sweet, warm aroma of baked berries filled the entire kitchen. Rosy closed her eyes and took a deep breath, imagining they were already floating high up in the starry sky, surrounded by delicious cake clouds.
Ding! The timer chimed. Dad carefully pulled the cake out. It was magnificent. It had risen high, looking exactly like a real purple spaceship ready to blast off into the deep, dark night.
They carried the masterpiece to the dining room. The table was decorated with glowing stars. Rosy gasped in awe at the beautiful scene. It really felt like they had landed on the moon for a special picnic.
Mama sliced the cake, giving the first piece to the brave captain. Rosy took a big, happy bite. The cake was warm, sweet, and tasted like a real space adventure. She looked at her family with a giant smile.
Wren clapped her hands, covered in purple frosting from head to toe. Dad laughed, wiping a smudge of purple from his own nose. Rosy raised her fork high into the air, ready to make her final captain's announcement.
She grinned at her crew and said, "Next time, we are baking a giant cookie to catch a shooting star!"
