Salty Splash and the Birthday Crown
Bayside Park was alive with the sweet smell of strawberry frosting and the rustle of party balloons. Rosy stood tall by the picnic tables, admiring her masterpiece. She had just finished scratching beautiful rainbow swirls into her bright pink paper birthday crown.
"Look at my royal crown, Eric!" Rosy called out, using her dad's first name just like a grown-up would. Eric looked up from lighting the birthday candles and gave her a giant, goofy thumbs-up that made her giggle.
Suddenly, a warm, salty breeze swept through the park. It snatched the Pink Scratch-Art Crown right off Rosy's head! The crown tumbled down the grassy hill, rolling faster and faster toward the sandy shoreline.
Rosy gasped, her eyes growing as wide as saucers. She raced down the sandy path, her feet kicking up golden dust. "My crown!" she cried, watching the pink paper splash right into the sparkling turquoise water.
But the ocean did not just take the crown. The water began to bubble and swirl, rising up into a towering shape. It was Salty Splash, the giant, goofy wave monster, and he was wearing Rosy's crown on his wet, bubbly head!
Salty Splash let out a bubbly, gurgling laugh and wiggled his watery hips. Rosy put her hands on her own hips, her face turning very serious. "That is my birthday crown, Mr. Wave!" she declared bravely.
The monster responded by splashing a playful wave right at her toes. Splat! Rosy jumped back, her eyes sparkling with competitive mischief. If Salty Splash wanted a battle for the crown, she was ready to fight.
Rosy stomped her feet in the shallow water, sending a shower of salty droplets back at the monster. "Take that, wave!" she cheered. Salty Splash giggled, shaking his bubbly shoulders and spraying mist into the sunny air.
Mom and Eric ran down to the shoreline, watching the grand battle. Rosy was dancing and dodging the incoming ripples like a true warrior princess. "Go, Rosy, go!" Mom cheered, clapping her hands to the rhythm of the waves.
Salty Splash leaned down, pretending to roar, but he only managed a soft, foamy hiss. Rosy leaped over a incoming wave with a mighty jump. She was too fast, too social, and far too determined for a water monster.
Realizing he had met his match, Salty Splash did a silly underwater somersault. He popped back up, bowed politely, and gently floated the Pink Scratch-Art Crown back to the wet sand right at Rosy's feet.
Rosy scooped up her crown, which was miraculously dry and still perfectly pink. She waved goodbye to her bubbly new friend. Salty Splash waved a watery hand back before dissolving into the gentle, rolling tide.
With her crown securely back on her head, Rosy marched triumphantly back up the hill. Mom and Eric walked beside her, listening to her grand tale of ocean monsters and brave sea battles. She felt like the queen of the beach.
Back at the picnic shelter, the birthday cake was waiting. Rosy sat down, her cheeks warm and rosy from her adventure. She reached out and gently placed her pink crown onto her mother's head, sharing her royal victory with a sweet, quiet smile.
