Where the Wind Carries Wings

A quiet hum filled the room as Juni tucked three special papers under her arm. Today was the day for a grand adventure, and she had everything ready. Her favorite crayons were packed, and her imagination was buzzing with ideas.

Beside her bed, Fish waited patiently. Juni lifted Fish's Glass Bowl with two steady hands, keeping the water perfectly still. "We are going to the best spot in the whole world," she whispered to her silent, swimming friend.

Out on the sidewalk, the morning air felt fresh and cool. Juni walked with slow, deliberate steps, balancing the bowl in front of her like a precious treasure. Under her elbow, the three drawings of her bronze-winged creature nudged her side.

Suddenly, a mischievous gust of wind swept down the street. It whistled through the hedges and danced around Juni's sneakers. Before she could squeeze her arm tight, the wind snatched the three drawings right from her grasp.

Juni gasped as the papers swirled into the air. She held Fish's Glass Bowl close to her chest to keep it safe. "Oh no, Fish!" she cried, watching the first drawing flutter over a wooden fence and out of sight.

The second drawing drifted toward a cozy front porch nearby. On the porch floor, Dog was curling up for a morning nap. The paper floated down, landing right where Dog was about to rest his heavy, furry head.

Juni hurried to the edge of the porch, her heart beating fast. "Excuse me, Dog," she said softly, not wanting to startle him. Dog blinked his warm eyes and looked up, sniffing the colorful paper beneath his nose.

With a gentle wag of his tail, Dog stood up and picked the drawing up with his teeth. He stepped down from the porch, his paws clicking softly on the wood, and trotted right over to Juni's side.

Juni smiled and let out a breath she had been holding. "Thank you, helper," she whispered. She looked down the sidewalk toward the park, where the third and final drawing had landed on the soft, green grass.

Together, the little group made their way into the park. Dog walked proudly beside Juni, carrying the retrieved drawing like a badge of honor. The tall trees swayed gently, welcoming them to the quiet, sunny meadow.

Juni spotted her checkered picnic blanket spread out under a giant oak tree. She walked over and carefully set Fish's Glass Bowl right in the center, where the light made the water sparkle like magic.

Dog trotted up to the blanket and dropped the rescued drawing right next to Fish's bowl. Juni picked up the paper, brushing off a tiny speck of grass. The bronze-winged creature in the drawing seemed to smile back at her.

Juni sat down on the soft blanket and invited Dog to join her. Dog curled up happily, resting his chin on his paws. Fish swam in gentle circles, watching them both from the safety of his sparkling glass home.

The park was peaceful and still. Juni looked at her drawing, then at Dog, and finally at Fish. She felt a warm, quiet happiness inside. It was a perfect picnic, made even better by the friends sharing the shade with her.

As the afternoon sun began to dip, a tiny ladybug landed softly on the corner of the drawing. Juni watched it crawl slowly across a bright bronze wing, its small red shell shining in the warm, golden light.
