Breeze and the Emerald Serpent
Juni tucked three precious papers under her arm. On each one, she had carefully colored a magnificent serpent with emerald scales and crimson wings. 'Today is our big adventure,' she whispered, lifting a round glass bowl from her desk.
Inside the bowl, Fish blew a tiny, perfect bubble of agreement. Juni smiled, her eyes shining with quiet determination. Together, they were going to the park for a grand, sunny-day picnic with their imaginary dragon friend.
Juni walked down the sunny park path, holding the bowl very steadily. She took slow, careful steps so Fish would have a smooth ride. Her bright drawings fluttered like real wings against her side as she marched along.
Suddenly, a playful gust of wind swooped down from the treetops. Whoosh! It swirled around Juni's shoulders and snatched the three drawings right out of her grip. 'Oh no!' Juni gasped, watching them fly away like autumn leaves.
The first drawing sailed high over a wooden fence and landed softly on the porch of a nearby blue house. A fluffy golden dog was snoozing peacefully on a rug, completely unaware of the emerald serpent drifting toward him.
The sleepy dog yawned, stretching his long legs. He began to roll over, right toward the colorful paper. 'Wait!' Juni called out from the gate, her heart beating fast. 'Please don't nap on my serpent!'
At the sound of Juni's voice, the dog paused and blinked his sleepy eyes. He looked down and sniffed the paper. With a gentle nudge of his wet nose, he slid the drawing safely away from his heavy paws.
Juni carefully set Fish's bowl on a sturdy wooden step. She walked up to the porch, her footsteps quiet and polite. 'Thank you,' she whispered, gently retrieving her drawing. The dog wagged his tail, making a soft thumping sound.
The dog trotted down the steps, his nose high in the air. He was on a mission now. He bounded toward a nearby rosebush, where the second drawing was caught in the leafy branches, shining brightly in the sun.
With a gentle wiggle of his ears, the dog leaped up and carefully caught the corner of the paper in his teeth. He walked back to Juni, proudly holding the second emerald serpent without making a single tear.
'You are a very good helper,' Juni said, her face lighting up with a warm smile. She gathered Fish's bowl back into her arms. The dog trotted happily beside her as they searched for the final missing drawing.
They reached the wide picnic meadow, and there it was. The third drawing had landed perfectly in the center of their checkered blanket, right under the shade of the big willow tree. It looked like a real dragon resting.
Juni set the fishbowl on the blanket, and the dog sat down beside it with a happy sigh. Juni arranged her three drawings in a neat row. The emerald scales seemed to shimmer in the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Juni shared her picnic treats, feeling incredibly cozy and content. She looked at the grass and noticed a tiny, glittering green feather tucked under the edge of the blanket. She smiled, leaving it there for their next big adventure.
